2010

Teignmouth Science Festival

19th March

Local songwriter David Haines taught four songs from his science oratorio Powers of Ten

Tamar Valley - celebrating the geological, industrial and natural history of this great river

Tectonic Waltz - exploring plate tectonics

Moon - describing our nearest neighbour

93 Million Miles - stressing the importance of the Sun to our life here on Earth

David explored the topics with his customary enthusiasm and wit.

His workshops have inspired thousands of children throughout the UK and the USA.

Experience has shown that he stimulates an enthusiasm and curiosity even in children

who previously appeared indifferent to science.

After the workshop every teacher was given an audio CD of the songs

and a handout with further information and suggested activities to augment the workshop.
