Chris Lloyd, author of What on Earth Happened? and What on Earth Evolved? delivered a lecture taking the audience on an amazing journey. Using a high degree of audience participation (including props, live experiments, and a quiz) Chris navigated life on earth as never experienced before!
During the lecture showed how the rival systems of Natural Selection and Artificial Selection have brought the planet, life and people to the brink of a major catastrophe for life on Earth. He demonstrated the natural self-correcting system of evolution using a model railway set. Along the way he traced 50 of the most successful species to have evolved before humans and 50 species that have thrived as a result of humans.
Local songwriter and science enthusiast David Haines joined Chris to sing two songs he composed especially for the launch of What on Earth Evolved? at the Royal Institution, London, in October 2009.
